Meditation

Quite short meditation again. Under 20 minutes.

At some point I felt like a wave was overcoming me. I thought I was gonna cry, because it's been happening a lot lately as I'm releasing a lot of tensions and stuff. But I felt something telling me "It's ok, everything is ok. Don't worry, soon enough you'll be laughing, and spreading that laugh around." And I figured, it's ok to cry, I'll laugh in a few days or something, but the wave actually crashed in a laughter instead of a sob. I guess I didn't have to wait a few days. It's weird how similar the feeling is actually.. When you don't attach any emotion to it, and just feel what's happening in your body, laughter and sob are almost identical.

I don't have much more to share...
All I want to share today is silence.

And gratitude.

Meditation

Today I recorded 30 minutes of silence, apart from the part where a friend/neighbour of mine barged in unapologetically, did what she came to do (something to do with a key that could absolutely have waited a few hours, or days), said what she had to say and took off.

Even before she came in I had a hard time settling, centering. I was distracted and more focused on trying to meditate than really meditating.

When she entered I opened my eyes but tried not to move. I did end up answering her though, and didn't manage to stay comfortably silent as yesterday's lesson had advised.

After she closed the door behind her I sat a little longer but was even more distracted than before. I kept thinking of how rudely she came in, with no regard for my private quiet time (she meditates too so I thought she would know better). It really felt like an intrusion (my need for boundaries and respect of my privacy is quite high these days, it's THE issue I'm working on)

But, as I was indeed sitting there meditating, I kept observing my thoughts. I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right with her behaviour, but I was trying to let go of the fact that I felt disturbed and disrespected, to try and go beyond that. I was trying to let go of what I was feeling to try and connect to what she might be feeling. I ended up thinking that if she came and see me for a trivial reason maybe her need to be heard was greater than her need to respect my privacy (which I know she has). At some point I just stopped trying anything and thinking altogether, and let go. I wasn't completely serene and felt like I should sit a bit longer but I decided to get up anyway. I went to see her but she wasn't available. I sat down to write, and opened myself to welcome her if she came back. And indeed she did, and she talked, and I listened.

I could have considered her needs more important than mine (as I would in the past, it was my signature move), and come out of my meditation entirely as soon as she entered the room the first time.

I could have continued fixating on how disrespectful her behaviour felt to me and get angry at her, and then at myself for getting angry at her (frustration and guilt, also great moves of mine).

I could have considered my needs more important than hers and lock my door to her to take the time to find my quiet.

I'm happy that I was able to consider both our needs important, and go beyond my direct emotional reaction, to connect with her and be able to be there for her, having taken the time to be there for myself first.

I think today's lesson is that no matter where you're at, no matter how people come on to you, you can find a way to be there for you and for them, if you manage to get quiet enough and connect to the needs, and not the form they take.

Every interaction is an act of love, wether it be giving it, or asking for it. Even violence and aggressiveness are just ways for some people to exist, to be noticed, to express themselves. If you can find it in you to see beyond that first impression, you will always find that deep down we're all the same and all want the same things. We just have different ways of experiencing and expressing it.

Let's see what tomorrow brings !

New beginning - Meditation

It seems I’m always starting, beginning, and not following through much. But I don’t feel like I’m quitting things, more like they were not important enough to keep my attention longer. Sometimes these beginnings are a whole experience in themselves. The end is already there in the start.
I guess I just have to keep starting things and hope some of them actually turn into something.

So here is another beginning.
I will record my daily meditation, and post whatever comes out of it
I will just sit, let go, and see what happens.

This morning, I turned on the voice memo on my phone and sat down.
I didn't know how long I would sit for, but having settled just when the church bells rang, I planned on sitting at least until I heard the next ones, 30 minutes later.
I ended up sitting for almost an hour.
I just stayed silent for a long while, and then felt some presences with me (mostly my three dead grand-parents); so I started asking questions, and I actually got answers (It's something I was encouraged to do, to actually try and interact with whatever was coming up during my meditations).
I was repeating out loud the whole process. There was also some insights that came, not in a question-answer form, just phrases or whatever, so I voiced them out loud too.
It was intense. I cried and let go of heavy things. I smiled and laughed too. I felt supported, overwhelmed, loved, humbled, ...
Mostly what came out of it was that I had to be myself and work on being comfortable with silence around other people and not feel guilty or rude about it. I'm ok with this as I've wanted to be a better listener for a while but always end up commenting on what people say and then talking a lot and getting in my own way.
Then I sat silent a little while and had some more insights but I felt alone again; centered, peaceful.
I opened my eyes, grabbed my phone to stop the recording, and saw that I had had a missed call. I went to the voice app and realised that the call had stopped the recording, 11 minutes into my meditation. I recorded 11 minutes of silence, and everything that happened after will be kept in the silence of eternity. How fitting.
So then I went to my phone log to see who called, and who could it be but my grandmother? my 4th grandparent, the only one still alive, who called me wondering where I was and what I was up to. So of course I called her right back, because feeling connected to my dead relatives is amazing, but relating to the ones who are still alive is a gift.

So here we are, the first recording of my daily meditation failed in a way that is not a failure at all.
I knew I wanted to share what came out of my meditation, what I took out of it, what I learned from it. But to do that I didn't necessarily need to share the actual audio file, which would have been very weird and intimate.
I guess I needed the audio to actually not work, for me to realise that and feel free to share this experience in another way.

Let's see what I'll learn tomorrow!

Haut?

Ou Profond?

9 août

(insomnie pendant laquelle Les Justes de Camus me tiennent compagnie)

If you let it.

Are you ready

To trust

And let yourself fall?

Let go

Life will catch you

Les poèmes de Noème

Voyage, voyage…

Laisser aller, laisser couler, laisser filer.

Floating o/in sound

Se laisser transformer

Disparaître et réapparaître. Autrement.

Chaque moment un cocon.

Turning into light

Notebook excerpts

10 février 2020

I want a break.

From people. Including the person I’m trying to be.

I want to be. Not be someone or something or be doing or having.

Just BE.

I want a break from having to tell people who I am or am not, what I do or don’t, if I’m ok or not.

I want to wake up, breathe and Be.

Nothing else.

I want to face the void.

The pain.

The fear.

The guilt.

The shame.

I want to look them in the eye and stay focused. Stay conscious. Stay present.

I want to be with myself, in myself; and just that.

Just for a while..

Just the time it will take, for me to find myself; find my balance and be able to keep it around people.

Because I have it all.

I have Peace, Love & Happiness in and around me but I keep losing track of it because I tune in with people instead of tuning in with myself.

Everything is perfect as it is but people keep asking me, what's next?

Life is enough as it is but people keep asking me, what else?

Being is enough. Breathing is enough. Water is enough.

Pain is ok. Suffering is part of the whole.

I don't want to owe anything to anyone.

No money. No status. No explanation. No word.

A écouter ici.

On verra bien.

Life is amazingly magical and magically amazing

I don't know where to start.
I sleep less and less these days, and I think more and more. It's not that I think that much in the way I used to (overthinking, trying to understand everything), it's like, I feel I understand more and more. I stopped trying to understand and thus I understand, twisted right?

I accept life as it comes, take everything as it is, don't fight the present and go smoothly with the flow. Bentinho Massaro's outlook on life has helped me tremendously with this.

Since I've been living this way, alsmost everything I've experienced (seen, heard, felt, been through..) has taught me something, big or small.
Every time I watch a movie, read a book, listen to someone, it goes way beyond the simple words. It reaches out to me.
Everything feels personal. I can relate to everything. I am either a cause or a consequence of everything that happens to me.
And yet nothing matters, or more accurately everything matters. There are no important things, other than the ones I give importance too. No one can force me to be a certain way, I always choose my reality.

Life is getting simpler, lighter, happier every day.
Science, philosophy, art, everything brings me back to me, my reality. It's the only one I'll ever experience so all I can do is try to explore it as much as I can.

I've always tried to understand people and make them happy. And sometimes I did, but I rarely knew it, so I felt frustrated.
Now I understand that the moments where I had a most positive impact was when I stopped trying to please people and was just being me.

All I can do is be me, so the only "have to" that I go by now is "I have to be myself". Not even my best self, there's no such thing. In everything I do I could find someone who supports me and someone who rejects me. And it doesn't matter.
All I want to do is be kind and fair, but who's gonna judge? So I'll just be kind and fair according to me, because it's the best I can do in my subjective reality.
I don't want to hide behind fear or good will. I want to live by joy and love. "Why are you doing this or that?" "Because I love doing it". Not because I think it's the right thing to do, not because I think people are gonna love it, but because I love it. There's too much to do and not enough time to bother with things I'm not passionate about.

I woke up at 4 this morning and the wintery night didn't encourage me to get out of bed so I put on a movie. Groundhog Day. I understood so much, about myself, life, the way I experience it. Live life, learn life, love life. Repeat.
And it's the same everytime now. There are no good movies or bad movies anymore, only movies and the way I see them, the lessons I take from them.
There are no good or bad, incredible or tragic events, there are only events. There are no truths or lies, there are only realities. Plural.
There is no such thing as objectivity. There are no such things as wisdom or crazyness. There are only infinite ways to experience life. And mine is the only one I got, the only one there is, as far as I'm concerned.
Everything feels surreal, everything could be made up, but everything seems real at the same time. So I get to choose what's real for me, and I choose love, joy, faith, trust. I choose to look only at things that makes my heart expand. I accept the rest, I won't look the other way when presented with something I "don't like" but I won't go and look for it either. If something unwanted happens I won't deny it's happening I'll just accept it. I'll try to find the silverlining, the rainbow in the rain, the opportunity in chaos. There is always a bigger picture, a bigger scale. Or a smaller one. Everything is important, yet nothing is. I get to decide. In every moment.
Life is a joyful game. Dare play!

Today I Learned I'm a bum

Internet conversation.

TIL (Today I learned) that a tramp is someone who only works when forced to, a bum does not work at all, and a hobo is a travelling worker. "

" Doesn't that mean that almost everyone is a tramp? "

I guess it might in a way..
A lot of people convince themselves that they are forced to work when they actually choose to (I admit not living in a country where catching a cold bankrupts you makes it easier to realize this).
A few months back, and not for the first time, I quit everything and changed my whole life. I left one life for a new one like you would get naked to put new clothes on. In this particular new life I chose to become a bum. I'll switch to hobo if I need or want to at somepoint but I'll never be a tramp because I'll never be forced to work, I'll choose to. It will be my decision and no one else's.
The only choice I make, that I make over and over again in different ways, is to be and stay free.

When I graduated I was free to work or not, I chose to work.
I was free to work anywhere and dreamed of living in south pacific so I found a job there and left my europan student life for a polynesian working life. Nobody forced me to work. I wanted to be free and earning my own money made me feel free. At some point my idea of freedom changed, working had become too repetitive, too static, my idea of freedom had become movement, so I moved. I travelled with the money I had put aside in my previous life (each life should be lived fully for what it is but also be a springboard for the next one) and progressively, with the money getting low, my idea of freedom changed again. I needed the freedom of being able to buy anything I wanted, and mosty I wanted a kitchen and a bathroom to call my own. I ended up back in Europe with a steady job, a car an an apartment. France didn' work out for me. My idea of freedom changed quickly back to living under the sun on a south pacific island so once again I moved my whole life back there (or rather left my whole life behind and started again from scratch. I was on an island had a job, a house, the sun and the ocean, felt pretty damn happy with that combo until my idea of freedom shifted once more. I kept the island, changed location & job and switched my house for a boat. Freedom at last! .. For a while. Work doesn't rhyme with freedom anymore, at least not this one. Well, let's train an get certified in something that feels more right! The boat doesn't make me feel as free as it did in the beginning.. Let's sell it, let's sell everything and travel again, let's be free for real.
This time, 5 months ago, I left everything but for nothing in particular. I have nothing so everything is mine.
I am free again, always.

I have nothing: no house, no vehicle, no income, no debt,.. and all I need fits in a 10kg backpack.
I have nothing but time.
I am always giving what I can so I am always receiving what I need.
I might not have a house but I find a home everywhere I go...

I figured out a way of life that suits me and works out right now but I know that tomorrow it might stop working out or it might stop suiting me (I might suddenly want to do something for which I need more money, I might want to stop moving around and settle,...) but when things change I'll accept and adapt to them so the changes will be done willingly and not forcefully. I can't be forced to do anything, everything I do is my deliberate choice. The world is, I choose how to react and adapt to it.

I try to live by :
Accept what you can't change,
Change what you can't accept.

So I look into myself and try to find :
The Serenity to accept the things I can't change,
The Courage to change the things I can,
And the Wisdom to know the difference.

Life is nothing but time and choices.
Living freely is taking the time to make choices.

Be conscious of your choices
And responsible for your actions.

Accept or Adapt, but embrace Freedom and Live.

Expectations and disappointment

Someone wrote to me today : "I'm sorry I disappointed you."
and I wrote back : "You didn't disappoint me, you can't actually."
Does that mean I don't care for them? Nope.
I care for everyone, it's actually a problem sometimes.
This is something else.

This is me trying not to expect anything from anyone, even myself (this is a tricky one: I don't want to be expecting anything from myself, I just want to set goals and do my best towards them, without any expectation of result, because results are most often not in my hands)
Expectation is the highway to disappointment.
If I don't expect anything from them, people can't disappoint me. It doesn't mean they shouldn't try to do right by me, it just mean they'll have to do it out of their own will, out of love (or just basic respect) for me, not by fear of disappointing me. And if they fail, I won't be disappointed because I'll know they did what they could, giving who they are and what they're going through/dealing with at that moment, and that's more that I could ask for.
I always reckon people did what they could.

And even if they didn't, that doesn't mean I shouldn't. So I always do what I can.
It's a two sided thing, I don't think people should expect anything from me, or take anything for granted. But it doesn't mean I'm not doing everything I can to do right by them, make them happy, share with them. The huge difference is that I'm happy to do it, it comes from the heart, not from feeling that they're expecting it from me. I'm not doing anything by obligation, I'm doing it out of my free will.
I'm doing my best to please people, I know I am, I know my intentions are good. Which means if they are disappointed/ungrateful/unhappy about something I did, I won't feel bad about it. I might be sorry they're not happy with it, but I won't be sorry I did it.
I always try and do my best, the result and/or the way it's received isn't in my hands.

So I don't owe anyone anything but people don't owe me anything either.
If I manage to not expect anything (I still haven't reached that goal yet, my mind doesn't always obey my will. But hey, if I reached instantly every goal I set where would be the fun in that? I would get bored real fast), then everything comes as a gift, a surprise, a bonus. I'm always happy with whatever comes my way.
I still don't like doing something nice for someone and barely getting a thank you because people think it was "natural" (yes I know that's expecting a thank you, told you I'm working on it, wait for the next paragraph). Something not requiring a lot of effort, or money or anything doesn't make it completely worthless nor does it mean that you owe it to them. A "Thank you" is a little something that goes a long way.
So whenever someone does something for me, however small a gesture, even if they think it's "normal" they did so, I thank them. I always try to be Grateful.

And this feeling I get when people take me or my actions for granted, when they aren't thankful/grateful, I look at it raise in me, and I look at it go away. Because my being sad or angry at/because of them isn't gonna do anyone any good, starting by me. I did something for them because I wanted to, because it made me happy. Sure I did it because I thought it would make them happy so my freaking mind instantly build expectations of thank yous and gratefulness. But if I go back to myself I remember that it made me happy to do it for them in the first place and that I didn't do it for those thank yous. I did it out of the pleasure of giving, of sharing, of doing something nice for someone I love.
Life has actually been testing me a lot on all that lately.
The more I have time for people the less they have time for me. The more I give the less they do. But every time I feel "neglected" or whatever, I take time to think about it and I realize that I love them, I know them, and I know that if they had time they'd be there for me. So in the end it just means that life is hard on them right now, and my expecting stuff from them not only is selfish but it's unfair.
It's in those moments when people don't have time for me that it's important to be there for them. Because often they don't even have time for themselves. They're in too deep, and my reaching out a hand, doing something for them, or even just letting them know I think about them, might end up making a difference. Even if they don't have time to actually thank me, or get back to me in any way.
So I always try to be Giving and be good to people whenever I feel like it, whenever I want to, whenever I can. And I know it might come back to me in a time when I'm not even thinking about them because I don't even have time to think about me...

All I'm asking people is to know themselves, be themselves, and do as they please.
But maybe that's a lot to ask...
I'm asking you not to need me, not to need me to need you. Just be happy.
But again, maybe that's a lot to ask...

There's truth everywhere, even in a Bieber's song...
Love isn't "Do this for me and I'm gonna do this for you". That's not what love is.
Love is just "I'm gonna do this for you 'cause I wanna do this for you"

"Honesty always gets my attention. Not particularly someone who is honest to me, but someone who is honest with themselves" Heat Ledger

So you should go and love yourself !

Truth vs. Good

***** en français plus bas *****

Personnaly, when I experience something Good I instantly want to share it.
When something makes sense, tates good, feels good, I wish more people could have the same experience and when it's possible I do something towards that purpose.

When I share here my thoughts, my "truths", my revelations,
If I share for the sake of sharing, knowing maybe it's gonna struck a chord for someone, that someone might share the same reality, I'm going in the right direction.
If I share here hoping to reach everyone, expecting everyone to understand me, convinced that they should agree with me because I found The truth, I've lost my path.
And still, I have done the exact same action, only the intention changed. But intention is everything....

*****

Happy but not vegan

***** en français plus bas *****

I'm not vegan anymore. (Well that didn't last long!)
I'm not vegan because I don't want to define myself and my life with a set of limited rules and get stuck in the boundaries i will have set for my self. I'm free and infinite and plan on staying this way.

It's easy to pick Love when facing a simple choice of Love or Hate, easy to pick Peace when asked to choose between Peace and War.
What's hard is having to choose between two different kinds of Peace, or two different kinds of War.
Our choices are never between Good and Bad, we'd all choose Good, we just don't have the same definition of Good, or we might not use the same way to get there.
Sometimes the virtuous intention is far away, in the past, the future or in an ideology, but it's always there somewhere, behind every action.
Sometimes our goal is our own well-being, sometimes someone else's, sometimes society's, but there's always a reason, something or someone to defend. And when we're defending ourselves, we think we're within our rights but often our end justifies any means.

In every situation Love, Respect and Non-violence will be my personal go-to rules.
I'm using my free-will to assess every situation and try to do "the right thing" every time, in accord to these core values.

When I have the choice between eating vegan, non-vegan, or nothing my priorities are : Vegan > Nothing > Non-Vegan. I'd rather not eat that eat something that goes against my core values, I don't need to systematically find a vegan equivalent to everything, there are a lot of things I can do without.
Now if I'm stranded on a desert island, starving, and the only food available is fish, I'll go fishing. It's called survival.
And if I'm a guest somewhere and my host offers me something that I don't usually eat but they would take offense at my refusal, I'll try and accept. It's called living together.

I'll always try and consider other people's needs and sometimes put them before my own, as long as it doesn't endanger my own life. And that's the actual tricky part. When do I consider myself endangered? Well, we all have to try and know ourselves as best as we can because we're gonna have to live anyway, and our actions and decisions will be based on our notion of safety. If I feel safe I'm peacefull, if I feel threatened I become belligerent.

In my everyday life, I can live off things that nobody suffered for (ethical, local, vegan, organic) why would I do otherwise?
It's not being a vegan, it's being me. It's what feels right for me, and it doesn't mean it IS right. It doesn't mean I'm gonna try to impose my way of doing upon you, it just means it's how I want to live my life and I wish people would go by with their own life and their own idea of right and just let me be me.

"People think you want them to do something or say something special... you don't. You just want them to be themselves, so you can be yourself"

*****
